Emotional Response

April 24, 2015

"Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable." (Psalm 145:3)

“Great is the Lord” - there is no one or anything comparable with God. There is no scale or measurement that can calculate his greatness. No research or diagnostic that can discover all there is about his greatness. What can we do with such a God? What can we say? Let’s follow the words of the Psalmist.

The Psalmist places worship within the frame of God’s greatness. A great God deserves our greatest praise. The nuance for “greatly to be praised” is that which is intensely emotional, spontaneously loud. We might express our thrill with pumping our fist and yelling - Yes!

Praise worship is our response to the greatness of God. But this response comes not merely because of intellectual ascent, no more than our cognitive response it is an emotional one that comes because we have had a taste of divine greatness

personally. Put away stoicism, God is Great. Let’s get expressive and vocal about this God.
