"Say among the nations, 'The LORD reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.'" Psalm 96:10
There is likely no place in the entire world where the citizens of a nation are totally satisfied with all things from their respective leadership. What stands out in question second only to security and protection is fairness, that is, the way government operates in order that all its citizens are treated fairly.
Psalm 96 is a song of encouraging praise. The theme is about a new world order, one established by the Lord. But there may be hesitation over the kind of rule Yahweh would exercise. Those who know the Lord are charged to comfort those nations not to worry. The new world will be unshakeable and the Lord’s administration will be equitable.
The message is a song in the context of worship. As we think about the sovereign rule of God, we understand God’s equitable rule will come forth soon. And because Christ is coming, it is worth singing about fairness. God is worthy of worship for he is a Holy God and social justice is found in Christ’s coming and his new world order.
